What is the difference between GLB and glTF?

Why won't my .gltf file open?

It most likely points to separate .bin or texture files, and the GLB viewer only receives the one file you drop, so it can't load them. Re-export it as .glb (glTF Binary in Blender) or as a .gltf with embedded data, then open it again.

Can the GLB viewer play animations?

No. The viewer shows the model at rest. Animated and rigged GLBs still open in the pose stored in the file, so you can check the mesh and textures, but their clips aren't played and there is no AR mode.

Yes. The side panel shows the bounding-box size in X, Y and Z, the triangle count, surface area and volume. glTF is defined in metres, so a GLB opens in m; switch to mm, cm or inches at any time, for example before 3D printing.

Yes. The GLB viewer also opens STL, OBJ, PLY and 3MF, so it doubles as a free 3D model viewer for common mesh files. Those formats are read in millimetres, and OBJ opens without its .mtl in a neutral material. FBX and USDZ are not supported.
